A Letter to Asha

Words from your Papa & Mama

Two letters, written slowly, on the eve of your very first birthday — for you to read whenever you need them.

From your Father

For Asha, on your first birthday

My dearest Asha,

A year ago I held you for the first time and understood, all at once, why people write songs about moments like that. You were so small, and the world so big ΓÇö and yet somehow, you made it feel safer than it had ever been.

I have watched you learn everything from scratch: how to focus your eyes, how to laugh, how to reach for what you want. You never gave up on any of it. That is the bravest thing I know.

Whatever you grow into ΓÇö curious, quiet, wild, gentle, all of it ΓÇö I hope you always know that you were loved from the very first second, and that you will be loved in every second to come.

Happy first birthday, little star.

From your Mother

A letter from your Mama

My darling Asha,

They say the days are long and the years are short. This year proved it. Some nights felt endless ΓÇö and yet here we are, celebrating your very first birthday, and I would happily live every one of those days again.

You changed my life in the softest possible way. Because of you I notice sunsets again, I hum without thinking, and I keep tiny socks in my pocket like treasures.

Thank you for choosing me to be your Mama. Whatever the future brings, my arms, my heart, and my patience are always yours.

Grow gently, my love. The universe is yours to discover.

Your Mama
